Surfing in Morocco

Morocco is Africa's most popular surf destination and one of the most rewarding surf trips anywhere in the world. The Atlantic coast between Agadir and Essaouira is the epicenter, with Taghazout serving as the main surf town. Anchor Point delivers long, powerful right-hand point breaks, while nearby Killer Point and Boilers add variety for different swell directions. South of Agadir, Imsouane offers one of the longest waves in Africa, a gentle right-hander perfect for longboarding. The best season runs from October through April when consistent North Atlantic swells arrive. Water temperatures range from 16C to 22C. Morocco's unique blend of Berber culture, incredible food, desert landscapes, and Atlantic waves creates a surf trip that engages all the senses.

The peak surf season runs from October through April, when consistent North Atlantic groundswells arrive with regularity. This period also brings the most surf tourists to Taghazout, particularly from December to February. The shoulder months of October, November, and March–April offer good waves with fewer crowds. Summer sees smaller, less consistent swell but warmer water and excellent conditions for beginners and longboarders at spots like Imsouane.

The beach breaks north and south of the main point breaks offer ideal learning conditions during smaller swells, and the affordability of lessons and accommodation makes Morocco an excellent choice for first-time surf travellers. More advanced surfers will find plenty of challenge at the region's more powerful reefs and points.
