Surfyy Beach in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, is South Korea's first beach designated exclusively for surfing, stretching one kilometre along the East Sea coast. Once a military zone off-limits to the public until 2015, it has rapidly become the mecca of Korean surf culture, popularised through social media. The facility boasts approximately 1,000 surfboards and the most trainers of any Korean surf spot, alongside a well-organised surf school offering lessons in English. The beach features themed zones — bean bags, hammocks, chilling areas, and sunbeds — plus a pub and lounge, camping facilities, and a fully stocked bar with live DJs and dance parties every weekend from May through October. Visitors are 'mesmerized by the beautiful scenery' and praise the energetic, youthful atmosphere. The facility is a perfect destination for those wanting to surf by day and socialise by night, though waves can be small outside typhoon season and summer holidays bring extreme crowds.
